What makes you happy ?

Blogger wouldn’t let me delete old posts from 2 blogs I had there. Tried a few times over 3 hours but no way was it going to let me delete my posts. So nuking the blogs was the only option. Not that I wasn’t going to do that, but I wanted to see the posts gone first. It’s been a while since I did much more than hop in and write a quick post so having to sit and watch the yellow triangle with the throbber was painful. Very. Especially when the same nonsensical error kept being returned. If you are going to show me an error message do it fast, don’t keep me waiting. Let me get the expletive out and try again/move on/hate the app more. Tension building may have some dramatic uses – this is not it.

Two more domains bought so I own the com/net/org of 1 I hope to use in the future more than it is now. Wpmu evicted from another domain and a nice long entry in .htpasswd installed instead. I installed Deepest Sender to blog to the protected blog. It seems okay too – no unnecessary bells or whistles (I’d like the icon in the status bar though…)

And I swear someone added an email address of mine to a “please send me lots and LOTS more crap” because for the past few weeks it has flooded into Thunderbird. It’s doing a pretty good job of ID’ing the bad stuff and together with filters it’s not hugely annoying but I think I should start to play with whatever comes with cpanel to see what I can stop on the server. This will sound like a company plug but since the last google dance and my pr being bumped up by 1 the blog spam has shot up. A few hundred a day (currently 27,184) and not one wrong from Akismet – one for email would be neat.

And this next week I am going to try and post at least once a day to two other blogs – and maybe even here too. I have things I want to write but it’s finding those little chunks of time – and also the tools. 3 blogs, 3 tools – because I can’t afford to mix them up and from inside they all look the same…. I know I could look up and check but with distractions being what they are, and the information being what it is….

Meant to use these things to diary stuff….sometimes.
So… attic conversion for ‘storage’ continues. Not our house but we need the space. And as ‘storage’ it’s cheap. And it saves bothering the council. And I really shouldn’t blog that. Bah.
The butterfly picture alone with a load more taken on a really long walk while the carpets were cleaned. That was after the TV guy came round and quote £366 for a new aerial and amp/booster to power 6 TV’s (not that we will use 6, but we have 5 that need a good signal). 2 more quotes will be got.
Really busy online so I got nothing done that I wanted to do today but I’ll hopefully make up for lost time tomorrow.
Did I mention I’ve restarted my blogger blog?
I found a use for podz.eu but I actually don’t know what to do with it. A google for ‘podz’ finds me at #1 but some commercial companies underneath. Not that I bought it to sell it but I’m stuck for what to do… here is here, planetpodz will be a ‘work’ site, freshlypressed is where it is, .net sits and does what it does, shimmer looks quiet and is far from it so what to do I have not the slightest clue. I actually wanted a big picture of an eye with a reflection but didn’t have the time to open PSPro and get frustrated.

Didn’t get to bed until ~2am last night after intending to finish early and watch Sleepers yet again. Can’t watch that on a monitor. It needs a slightly darkened room, perfect peace, no disturbances. Great film. But it’s tonight. It’s 11pm and it’s 2 hours long. I can still go bed early if I watch it. Which I’m going to do right now.

I’m going to San Francisco.
I’m going to meet Matt (again), Ryan, Andy, Donncha and Toni so the whole of Automattic will be in one place. I’ve known for a few days but I still find it gobsmacking that I’m going. I just sit here in my house answering things and in the last few months ….. this is what I read on other blogs. This is what other people do when they go here, fly there, see this, experience that. And now I get to. I’ve never been on a plane on my own before. I was a nurse for most of my past life – closest I got to travel was a minibus with dodgy bodywork. It’s going to be really good to meet everyone though, put voices to text…..
I’m away for D’s 16th birthday. Have never missed a birthday of either of the girls but D says it’s cool by her. It’s also going to be the longest I’ve been away from Jacq too. So it’s strange, happy, sad, excited and just plain amazed. If someone had said to me even 3 months ago …..
Matt has also just announced WordCamp 2006 in San Francisco that week so that’s something else new… weird… this just doesn’t happen to me. It’s not that I don’t mind, it’s not that I don’t think I’ll love it…I just find this quite surreal simply because it is so completely different – lived in the same village for 17 years and now I’ll be in the same city as thousands of bouncy balls.

There has been the demise of Blue Security because of their anti-spam measures and now companies associated with Blue Security are themselves taken out. (src: Slashdot) Looks like the spammers rule the internet eh?
Broadband – it’s not find crap faster. It’s get crap thrown at you faster. I can and do Adblock, use customisegoogle and RIP so I hardly ever see junk. I see not a lot of comment spam. Thunderbird and whatever it is on the server do a good job of spotting and removing the crap. But all that’s no use if there is no server, no pipe, nowhere to go is it?

Which all leads straight into the “Let’s rule the internet OUR way” and you don’t need a brain the size of a planet to know where I and thousands of others would be pointing. Strange isn’t – the US Attorney General wants to know if you have searched for words that could indicate porn but he seems not to give a flying f*ck (ha ha) about the spammers sending out tons of garbage. Priorities…

Incidentally, yesterday Akismet took down just over 2 million spams. You do have Akismet, Bad-behavior and Spam Karma doing their bit for you don’t you?

WHERE IS MY HEWITT PIECE PLERASE?

The goofball above left a very long rant about someone called ‘HEWITT’ (note, not ‘Hewitt’) some time ago. It was very long and all in capitals. I really dislike people who overuse their capslock key to the point it breaks. I deleted it. He posted something along the lines of “I wrote it bring it back” so I deleted that too. Then another. Now the above – which has also been deleted.

Just because there is the ability for you to leave comments does not impose on me any obligation to display your ranting garbage. You may say what you want, you may believe what you want – but do not expect me to allow you to use this space as a platform for your paranoia. I do not believe any blogger would permit your shouting to stay on their blog and I am no different. I would suggest that you get your own blog but somehow I don’t feel you want your conspiracy theories to be left in a single blog do you? You want to wander round blogs scattering your maniacal meanderings and pointless drivel in the vain hope that someone may read it and join you on this ‘castles in the air’ crusade. Get a grip you drooling fool – we don’t want you to do this – I bet you have it all written in Word or something (scrub that, it’ll be Notepad eh?) so you can copy and paste (you can do that?). What would the term for that be? Rant’n'Run? or RANTNRUN? Why is it that you and fellow mouth-foamers cannot see that the way to persuade us is by discussion, by presenting facts, arguing carefully and by being open to the opinions of others instead of your drive-by (surf-by?)
