Keyboard irritation

17:22 Tuesday 30 Jan 07

The vast majority of people I support are IE users. Right now there is a theme I need to look at in IE6 because that is where the problem lies. But I’ve got everything running on the mac. The PC is doing zero right now. And I cannot use the mac kb/mouse on the PC because the mac cannot act as the synergy server. So I need to use 2 keyboards and 2 mice which gets really annoying really fast.
Go back to the reason I have the mac: to be able to give support to mac users. If mac users are in the minority of the audience I serve, then shouldn’t it figure that I use the mac the minority of the time? I know I could get pirated Parallels and XP but I just cannot be bothered to do that and I see no need to actually spend that cash when I’ve a perfectly good PC sitting here.

So do I stay on the mac and resign myself to using the PC keyboard a couple of dozen times a day at least or do I go back to the PC and use the mac kb maybe once a week? Right now the latter seems more attractive …

I wonder when I’ll get the Vista stuff rolling in…

Blogging from La Paz

21:07 Sunday 21 Jan 07

It’s 2pm. I got up at 6am yesterday, left the house around midday and got here an hour ago. There’s a 7 hour time jump there too. First thing I did when got my room – plug the laptop in. One minor luggage problem in Mexico City.. when the plane landed my luggage went one way while I went to Starbucks. Took some finding.
So I’m sat in a ground floor room, door open onto a bright warm courtyard, feeling human after a shower and blogging. I travel a long long way and I blog. Why not.

And the post 2 below this one? I give up.

My office

The mac monitor is actually huge – 20 inch – and dominates there so it’s in the wings waiting for the move upstairs.

Praise

I sure she won’t mind but a lady we just set up on FreshlyPressed just said this:

I can’t believe how amazing you guys are!

That is exceedingly cool :)

J blogs!

22:40 Saturday 9 Sep 06

Jacq is actually blogging. On WordPress. For the first time ever. Only criticism so far is that the blues in the admin bar make it hard to see what is there. Although the highlighted part may have a lighter background it means clicking to see what you don’t want. She should be okay now though as she has remembered where she needs to click.
J is providing the initial content for the village website we hope to launch soon. ‘Launch’ will actually be making a post from the main blog as there should be several wp installs in the end. If it takes off in the manner which we have planned. I took a few dozen pictures of the village castle earlier whch are sitting in a ZenPhoto gallery and it’s my job to make the site look as J wants it to. She’s not been exposed to all this “Web 2.0″ stuff but she has seen loads of village sites while looking into how we should do ours. Her vision problems also mean that we won’t be going to small characters and funky colours and patterns. Sensible design. If you take vision into account it’s amazing just how many themes were eliminated. It’s not set.. we’lll see what happens. But for J to even be blogging is cool :)

Efficiency on a saturday morning

10:22 Saturday 9 Sep 06

It’s 10:20 and I’ve done all I wanted to achieve for the day. All the Automattic work is done (though more will arrive), I’ve done the FreshlyPressed stuff I wanted, done some todo stuff that was down for today and checked that I’ve not missed anything.
Scary.

The boss is me

23:21 Monday 4 Sep 06

So after a lot of advice and a lot of hoop-jumping following that advice I rang the Tax Office today and formally changed my tax status. So now I get to see just what being one’s own boss really is all about. First thing to do is figure out this signing up for VAT thing – but I get a free half-day course and no doubt a pile of paperwork to wade through. Luckily J is on hand for all that figuring out stuff :)
Ian posted a cartoon link the other day which made me laugh.

And I just realised I have no new music for the gym tomorrow so I’d better find some…..

Saturday working

11:52 Saturday 1 Jul 06

Site move (not mine), site creation (not mine) other stuff (not mine) …. I don’t remember the last time I actually had a day off. I can dream of one I suppose.

Filezilla. Is it me or is it getting slightly sluggish? I’m always uptodate – and it could just be me – but I get more connection errors, more transfer errors (I never got any) and when I close it the program seems to ‘let go’ slowly. I think I might change to something else for a while – though transferring loads of connection info does not appeal.

Back to the grindstone….
