To ask a question is the beginning of knowledge.
To ask a question is the beginning of knowledge.
Over at LifeHut, a bit of a debate was started by the post entitled How to NOT cheat on your partner, and I’ve commented but not on the main issue. It’s a bit long for a comment.
The point I would criticise concerns the assumption I see running through that post that sex is the cheating part – it isn’t. But before I leap into a flawed post, the issue – as is rightly pointed out in that article, is talking. And I don’t mean after the fact either – speaking as a bloke, you will only ever find out what a woman thinks cheating is AFTER you have done something which you probably do NOT think is cheating – and your same-sex mates would agree with you and possibly even some opposite sex mates as well.. Read on…and what follows is the views of a 41 yo bloke who is still with the woman he met over 22 years ago and married in 1986. This neither entitles me to a “I’m better than you” opinion, nor does mean I’m telling you anything else.
I wanted to keep that post “What makes YOU happy” because even for me and my views on blogs, I think some things, some posts, some thoughts … deserve a little more permanence in this weird world we inhabit and although here is no more permanent than the next server, it’s my blog, my post and now my page :)
Link on the right.
I’d seen ICE linked in a few places – the BBC and Random Acts of Reality are just two places. It’s an excellent idea and one I’ve talked to J and the girls about (I am a mobile-free zone), but I wondered this morning – as I was also thinking about the impending visit to the dentist (I had just the one tooth out today. Wisdom tooth, left side. No pain and thankfully it’s just out of reach of my tongue. The others I had out my tongue kept looking for and poking into the freshly vacated sockets….) and I got to pondering what would happen if I suddenly died. Okay … I don’t mean the biological aspects, I mean that here – or rather there (I’m pointing at your computer screen) all you would see is that a couple of days had gone by without a post. I’d have more traffic as people would wonder why I was not posting elsewhere … so I was thinking that maybe a more final version of ICE would be an idea.
It’s NOT easy ! This machine is never locked in any way, and so getting at email passwords just isn’t needed. The password database password I wrote down … so that’s the first thing I thought. Next I wondered about what to write to here, and what to write in emails. I have sat and thought, and thought and thought … and I have no idea what to say. Here I am with a golden opportunity to say what I want, to have the last word, to leave a monument to my being here and I’m clueless. (That bit I just wrote about ‘a monument’ – that’s crap but you know what I mean). What DO I write ?
For some reason, a few people read this stuff so to just disappear would be rude and although I would not be in a position to pop in and apologise, I AM in the position now to prepare – but what ? You know one of the hardest things I ever did ? Press the DELETE key on the mobile phone for someone who had died. That was very upsetting .. the finality, the callous digital disregard (it’s only data!) and there is one person who I KNOW is dead but I still have the guy’s feed, I still have his site in my bookmarks – it would feel wrong to delete, and I didn’t even know him. So don’t we owe it to others to make a ‘blogwill’ ? Maybe that’s the wrong thing … wrong term .. do you know what I mean though ?
Maybe an image would do the trick…
They want us to live without the TV and to be honest I could do so very very easily – but do not come between me and my computer okay ?
There’s a bit on that page that says this “Why is the FCC spending your money to get you to buy a new TV set? ” which reminds me of that scene in Dave (wasn’t Sigourney just gorgeous in that ?) where the eponymous lead questions why the Govt is spending tax dollars to encourage the citizens to buy US products when that industry spent less doing that. I wonder what the UK spends money on us in the same way ?
You know, with the election where it is, this TV thing isn’t such a bad idea !
Oi McVities !
Leave our orangey bits alone !
Being 6’2″ (1.88m) tall, it’s usually the case that I can survey the horizon regardless of the surroundings. Crowds hold no fears for me – I spy my target and plough straight for it, with the facial metal assisting in people getting out of my way. Back to height. Nipped in one of the local shops, and it’s a long, quite narrow shop. I grabbed what was needed, nipping around people and things in the way and headed for the last aisle to queue. As I went round that last corner, the light quite literally dimmed, and looking directly ahead I could see a guy – part of him. My eyes were on a level with the middle of this guy’s back. Looking directly ahead my eyes did not reach his shoulder blades. He was HUGE, and all of a sudden I felt very very small. It felt very odd indeed as it’s a situation I am in so very rarely.
I mentioned this as today when leaving the showers at the gym, there were two huge guys getting changed and again it made me feel odd. Not bad, not intimidated exactly … would it sound daft to say it made like I was the child ? That probably does sound odd but it’s difficult to explain. I imagine we all have our perceptions of self changed my external events, and this tallness business gets me every time.
In the courtesy car which J has – some Vauxhall modelorother – it has what is proclaimed as “Climate Control”. Yet despite me looking, I am unable to find the button for “Rain”. That’s not climate control really then IS IT ?
In the CO-OP shop near us, it clear states that you need to be 18+ to buy alcohol. That’s fine, but why are they also saying that if they think you are under 21 and you have no ID, they will sell you nothing ? Why the 3 years difference ?
