Sometimes a login item

00:40 Friday 16 Nov 07

Sys prefs > Accounts > Login items > a connection to this domain.

It should open to a directory here so I can drag files to it.
Sometimes it works and I end up with a connection open on the desktop.
Sometimes it does not work- nothing happens.
Reboot/restart or power off / power on makes no difference – it appears random.

Given these things should “just work”, why doesn’t this? Anyone know?

    • Maybe a timing issue between it running, and your network sorting itself out? If the connection is run before you’re fully connected, it could be failing without telling you or something like that?

    • Now that makes perfect sense and is almost certainly it.

      Thanks!

    • W00t, I knew something!!!!
As an aside, what script are you using, and is it only read access you have, or read/write (cos I can’t find any way to write to ftp through finder)

    • I’m using Automator to send all images to the blog. I write in Marsedit (I’m forever quitting the browser because of so many tabs open and I lost many posts because I ignored my warnings) so Automator is great. A Transmit droplet works but it opened the app and I wanted background.

For the webdisk I used cpanel and the file that generated so what is in it I have no idea. But it does write. Important stuff or docs I want to sync with the laptop go there.

    • your webdisk with ASO works on your mac? Mine wouldn’t. I tried. I didn’t ticket them because it wasn’t worth it..

    • If you’re using cPanel, you can setup an automator action to connect to webdisk, which gives you the drag drop option.

Simply create an action to “Get Specified Servers”, enter your URL plus the correct port at the end (either 2077 or 2078 for https), then add another step to “Connect to Servers”.

I’m not sure if this is of any relevance, but thought I’d chuck it into the mix.
