MBP temp of 65deg
18:06 Wednesday 31 Oct 07
Normal MBP temp here ~47/48 degrees.
I decided to get more VodPod videos and from there played a Youtube video. It was playing in Safari.
Youtube + MBP temp ~65 degrees.
That is an amazing jump. A video makes the mac work so much harder the temp goes up by what.. 40% ?
Inefficiency somewhere is the only explanation.

FLV on the Mac OS is quite CPU-hoggy. Flash is definitely the culprit.

Does anyone know if it is any better on Leopard? Flash has always been a pain in the ass on my Mac’s because quicktime keeps thinking that its version of Flash 5 should take over and not use the Flash 9……I have to manually change it about 2 times a month in the quicktime options! I didn’t realize that it was also about to start on fire from the heat though…. ;)

yes, agreed, flash sucks. Usually, sitting on my desk my mbp’s temp is fine. But whenever i’m working in indesign, i use smc fan control. that makes it uber hot, and it pisses me off. that’s what a sexy metal enclosure gets you, i suppose :)

It’s no better in Leopard. Even with the fan spinning at minimum 3000 rpm (smcFanControl) I’ve seen temps around 75 C (170 F) while playing YouTube videos. Even so, the machine didn’t boost the fan speed. I increased it to 6000 rpm and that only brought the temp down 15-20 C. Bad.
