A concrete and steel fence is being built across the centre of Sydney
More than 5,000 police and troops
5km (three-mile) barrier
A$169m (£68m, $138m) on security for the event over six years
Fighter jets and police helicopters will patrol the skies above Sydney, while Australia’s navy will deploy ships, divers, water police and special forces in Sydney Harbour
Parts of Sydney’s rail network will be closed, along with many roads.
to protect the 21 Asia-Pacific leaders
They really worth that?
Over £3 million per head?
Is the cost of this lower than the cost of a sniper’s bullet?
Lower than terrorist propaganda?
Or is this just a stage on which to set the scene for more government propaganda?

Personally I’d like it if my Prime Minister came back in one piece… there is something to be said for sharing the cost for each meeting. Canada just recently hosted the Presidents of Mexico and the United States at a resort fairly close to my little village. The security wasn’t terribly conspicuous, although our local summer fair was going on at the same time and a dude with a light plane thought it’d be a good idea to give people rides. He was flying over my village, and kind of towards the resort, on the Saturday morning before the meeting and almost immediately two CF-18’s screamed in at him. They were, at most, 400 feet up… we could almost see the rivets. Awesome.

It would help if half those Asiatic Pacific leaders were assasinated anyway. :)
