Sneaking into your music
23:45 Thursday 31 May 07
The Unofficial Apple Weblog reports on iTunes DRM-free music.
PC Advisor reports on the fact your name and email are embedded in that DRM-free music.
The “Why worry if you have nothing to hide” argument is garbage – it’s a nasty thing to do.
Yet another reason to not buy an iPod or anything from iTunes.
(Now what is needed is some code that simply replaces whatever is there with the name/email of Steve Jobs, or the CEO of EMI)

I agree, and it’s for that reason that Steve Jobs did an Open Letter to the DRM-happy record labels pointing out that ten times more DRM-free music is sold than those with DRM. http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughtsonmusic/
Since then, he has had some success. iTunes will soon feature the ability to purchase music DRM-free (albeit at a higher price). http://www.macrumors.com/2007/04/02/emi-apple-press-conference-coverage/
Amazon, too, will soon offer DRM-free music.

It appears that this is being pushed primarily by EMI. Go EMI! Paul McCartney has had some say in it, too.
