Motivation – the important word
00:26 Monday 21 May 07
Lifehacker has a post “How do you stay productive when you work from home?” and in the post they have this:
Self-employed folks and telecommuters will tell you it takes some time and effort to discipline yourself to get things done when you work from your own couch. Got any tips and tricks for actually working from home when you work from home?
They missed a word – Motivation.
Everything is effort without motivation, be it at home or in a workplace.
If you don’t enjoy what you do then motivation will be harder and harder to come by.
If you are lucky enough to work at something you enjoy – like me – then the location is immaterial.
Motivation has to come from within.

You hit the nail right on the head. Successful people (not just monetary either) are people who are self-motivated. You will never be wealthy unless you are willing to put in the extra effort to make things happen and get things done. You will never save that endangered species unless you are willing to go up and above to make sure you have everything organized. The examples are endless, but motivation is a fire that is born within and only comes out when you enjoy something, love something or truely have passion. Without passion, most people quit when times get tough. Passionate people work through the tough times. Motivation is everything! My 2 cents.

‘Motivation has to come from within’ – true, especially for individual goals which you alone can achieve.
However, from experience, it is amazing how fast the will to perform can be sucked from the most motivated group if the director/manager/whatever doesn’t care, never says thank you and generally has no interest in what you are producing.
If management cannot engage and motivate their employees to be passionate about what they do, they will just do their hours and deliver what is asked for. No more, no less.
