Weblogs ‘need content warnings’
The code of conduct was drawn up by Tim O’Reilly
Readers should be warned when they are reading blogs that may contain “crude language”, a draft blogging code of conduct has suggested.

The code was drawn up by web pioneer Tim O’Reilly following published threats and perceived harassment to US developer Kathy Sierra on blogs.

The code begins: “We celebrate the blogosphere because it embraces frank and open conversation.”

The draft says people should not be allowed to leave anonymous comments.

Blogs which are open and uncensored should post an “anything goes” logo to the site to warn readers, the code suggests. BBC

Oh for fucks sake.

Okay, I’ll play – anything fucking goes and anonymous comments are perfectly fucking fine.

(Steve Martin is a great guy and I fucking love his attitude in Planes and Trains…)

The draft will now be assessed and amended by bloggers around the world.

WTF?

    • As I said in the comments on this, I guess SOMEONE had to come up with this even if it’s just so we can all now reference it and point and say “see, it’s a fucking daft idea!”.

I did like the wee sheriff badge though… ;-)

    • What really annoys me is that people have appointed this guy as some sort of Web 2.0 guru/overlord (even though he threw his toys out of the pram when the IT prople in Ireland wnat ed to use HIS trademark of Web 2.0
It’s also annoying that shit has happened on numerous blog, usenet, the print press, radio, TV and for all we know smoke signals yet HE decides that HE will cleanse us.

      Bollocks.

I’d need a disclaimer screen for my blog. Get real. Like I’m going to be arsed to do that.

If he seriously feels that this will do any good then he wants his head felt.

    • On one hand, I don’t think the proposed blog warning or code of ethics (conduct) or whatever is viable. On the other, I think this guy has the right to espouse his ideas. Isn’t that what freedom of speech is all about? And, if so then, what’s the problem?

We’re all capable of taking what any so-called blogging guru says with a grain of salt. Hopefully, we’re not sheep and won’t follow along blindly.

Obviously you won’t be posting a warning on your blog and I won’t be posting one on mine. So settle down, the sky is not falling. ;)

    • tt – I didn’t say the sky was falling.
But mainstream media who don’t know a blog from their ass is presenting an issue like it’s resolved, they are presenting O’Reilly as some sort of head, they are saying that death threats have never been made before and O’Reilly has not in that same press debunked this.
He must think he IS THE ONE TO PROTECT US ALL.

He DOES have the right to say what he will and I have the right to call him a clueless idiot.

It’s not the idea, it’s the presentation, it’s how they say it will happen. It’s all crap.
