I’m in the field of disaster and bioterrorism preparedness, and this is a huge issue for us, as I am sure you can imagine. Clearly, as you surmise, the mutation into a human-to-human transmissible disease scares the bejeesus out of us. I agree that it is not getting near the amount of press it deserves…

The last link says that the Department of Health has set aside enough money to buy anti-viral drugs for a quarter of the population.

I think it may be time to shun society completely and become a recluse.

I’m not panicking, I’m just wondering why it’s left until it’s on our doorstep before ‘Emergency’ meetings are called? Easiest way to avoid panicking is to have it under control … ignoring things for two months is not having something under control.
