Guys, a lot of us do try to tell it like it is at pc world. i will try to help any customer that has a problem as best i can.

I personally do not care if you take our after sales care service, anti virus or office. at end of day im advising you and if you want to use avg free then go for it i could not care less, Just run malware antibytes or spyware s&d and see how riddled your machine can get. and dont come running to my manager saying you were not offered it if you do get a trojan or malware (hey its the reason why we stamp your receipt in my store if you refuse our advice) and why we charge £40 to remove it when you do get one as your warranty does not cover such incidents.

LENGLO: Rentsmart who run the service called smartplan are not a part of pcworld we just provide the service on there behalf via pcworld business.

Bob: pc world in finneston is usually a good store but you would be better served by going to pc world in braehead as megastores tend to have dedicated customer services

Ken, If you paid by card we accept a bank statement/cc card statement as proof of purchase if you lose the receipt if the item is faulty or mis-sold as long as we can trace your receipt in some way and to be safe in future if it does not have the mac logo on it then dont buy it. most pc world staff dont know what a mac is if it bit them on the ass as they dont get as many kpi's on a mac sale.

Totally chessed off. i really really feel for you i am deeply sorry that this happened to you. the person that sold you that package should be ashamed of himself, he has shamed all decent pc world staff (and there is some out there)

Graham who on earth still uses dos? anyway that aside if you were told that it could be used on dos and it did not work as long as it was returned in 28 days and was in re-sellable condition you would get a refund or exchange. but if you threw the box out then its a different story.
If it was faulty then again its different again as we would ship it back to epson (for example) and do not require the box.

I wont bore you all with a similar tale !! Suffice to say....we also have been lied to (repeatedly) Made to feel completely incompetent/stupid, whilst PCW's only real aim appears to be to absolve itself of any responsibility whatsoever. Maybe they should run for government ! :-)

Hit them at the top is my suggestion.

The CEO's direct email is john.browett@dixons.co.uk

AND DON'T SHOP THERE......simples !!

I emailed their customer services three times with the same question.

"I required a DOS compatable printer, your salesman suggested a particular printer however i notices that it stated XP and Vista but not DOS can i return it if it is not compatable, the salesman said no. Is this correct?"

I got three responses from customer.services@pcworld.co.uk

1) No
2) Yes
3) No, It is at the discretion of the Store Manager, you should ask for something in writing.

Now not all of their answers are right.

I have even emailed them stating that its obvious from their answer that there sales staff cannot be relied upon so please can you recommend a particular product. And they told me to go instore and speak the their sales staff!

PS the correct answer is (3) however if the salesman did not say that it could not be returned then its (1) but as mentioned in an email to their Legal Services department I have never been fortunate enough to have any goods returned wether faulty or missold. And if it were not for the fact that i have no choice and that they hold a monopoly i ewould piss off to somewhere else.

All they want is a quick sale with total diosregard as to the suitability of the articles sold.

Ive always shopped with pc world and found the staff can barely speak, let alone have any intelligence of any kind. Tho the woman who served me who took my £350 was polite, and could string sentences together was really only interested in getting as much money from me as she could, especially over the monitor. Eventually i left and found out later id signed up for the £5 / month after care service which we had agreed not to begin, so i wasnt surprised her doubletalk had relieved me of more cash than i expected. Theyre not any cheaper than anywhere else ive found, and are con-merchants at best with their spiel.

familiar pc world problems....Just want to add a little trick on getting through to stores directly, rather than having to mess around with that one rubbish helpline.

1. ring the helpline number as soon as the phone bot answers press #

2. on the receipt there will be 4 digit store number by the name. key this in.

3. phone will ring again, you are now connected directly to the store
